Reception at the City Hall


The conference reception will be held at the Oulu City Hall (Kirkkokatu 2a) which is located in the centre of Oulu.

After the reception you can come with us to the restaurant/bar GrillIt in Kauppurienkatu 24a. GrillIt offers you a special conference price.

Conference dinner


The conference dinner will take place at Restaurant Hilikku (Kasarmintie 8h). Hilikku is located in a historical industrial milieu at a walking distance from the centre.

Guided tour in Oulu


CityTour: Oulu from the 16th to the 20th century
The tour around the city of Oulu will introduce the participants the history of Oulu as well as the results of the recent archaeological excavations. During the tour we will walk around the city center and see the remains of Oulu castle, smell pitch in Pikisaari, an island it was produced in, and stop on a spot where there used to be a pond in the middle of the 17th century Oulu. We will also hear how the townspeople solved the problems with constant wet on the streets and yards, how they built their cellars and buried their deceased. The tour will also visit Oulu Cathedral, where the remains of the previous bell towers are still visible.

After the guided tour a sauna will be warmed up in Villa Pukkila which is located on the idyllic Hietasaari island, address Paattikuja 4. You can easily reach it on foot from Pikisaari where the guided tour ends/ you can walk there or take the bus number 17 from center and then walk the rest of the journey. Following the Finnish party tradition you may bring your own drinks with you. Sausages and small snacks will be served.

Prehistoric sites of Oulu and Ii areas. Visit the Stone Age center and dwelling places in Kierikki. Kierikki is a Neolithic site 7000–5000 BC, 60 km from Oulu. Visit includes recent excavation areas, a rowhouse (5300 BC) and a Finnish megalith "giant church".

Duration: 8 a.m. - approximatelu 5 p.m.

From Medieval times to modern ruins. The excursion will take you to the Medieval church in Keminmaa, to the dwelling places of early modern townspeople of Tornio and to more recent industrial ruins in Oulu area.

Price: 20 eur

Duration: 8 a.m. - approximately 6 p.m.
